Teaching Methodology for a General English Class

All general English classes at Lingohello focus on maximising student speaking time.  We ensure the students talk as much as possible in class.  This allows them to build grammatical accuracy, fluency and confidence in a variety of English situations.  We focus on their needs and support them through their learning journey, in order to allow them to develop naturally into high-level general English users.

1 - General conversation & past tense

A personalised warm-up conversation where the student talks about their week, experiences, or recent events.

This activates their English, helps them relax, and gives natural practice with past tense forms.

2 - Review of new vocabulary from previous class

The teacher reviews new vocabulary from the previous class through short questions, examples, and personalised prompts.

The focus is on correct use, pronunciation, and helping the student make the words part of their active vocabulary.

3 - Review of structures as a speaking exercise

The student revisits key grammar structures through guided speaking tasks designed specifically for their level and goals.

This reinforces accuracy and ensures they can use the structures confidently in conversation — not just understand the rules.

4 - Homework check

The teacher checks homework, gives corrections, and explains any mistakes.

This step ensures the student fully understands the material and continues progressing between lessons.

5 - New Material

Introduction of new grammar, vocabulary, or functional language tailored to the student’s needs.

The teacher explains the new content clearly, demonstrates how it works, and provides meaningful practice through controlled and free-speaking tasks.

6 - Lesson Review

A short recap where the student summarises what they learned and practises the key points again.

This helps solidify the new language, identify remaining challenges, and strengthen long-term retention.

7 - Future Tense

A closing activity where the student uses future forms (e.g., will, going to, present continuous for future plans) to talk about upcoming plans or goals.

This maintains consistent practice of both past and future tenses, helping the student speak about life events more naturally.
